Control Arms: 80 governi partecipano alla consultazione, sostegno di Ban Ki Moon 28.06.2007 La campagna Control Arms ha annunciato con grande soddisfazione una significativa notizia: oltre 80 governi hanno partecipato al processo di consultazione, avviato dalle Nazioni Unite, riguardante il Trattato sul commercio delle armi. Lo scorso dicembre, con un voto storico giunto al termine di tre anni di mobilitazione della campagna Control Arms, l’Assemblea generale dell’Onu aveva dato il via ai lavori sul Trattato approvando una risoluzione con 153 voti a favore, il voto contrario degli Stati Uniti e 24 astensioni. Il Trattato istituirà standard comuni e chiamerà a rispondere del proprio operato gli stati che le commerciano armi in modo irresponsabile. Due settimane fa, nel corso di una conferenza svoltasi al Palazzo di vetro, lo stesso Segretario Generale dell'Onu, Ban Ki-Moon, ha espresso il proprio sostegno al Trattato sul commercio delle armi. UE: passa il divieto di importare pellicce di cani e gatti 19.06.2007 La LAV plaude al risultato del voto odierno del Parlamento Europeo che ha approvato, in prima lettura - il Consiglio deciderà nel mese di settembre - il divieto all’importazione e al commercio di pelli di cani e gatti nei Paesi UE. L’Unione Europea si unisce quindi a USA, Australia, Nuova Zelanda e Svizzera, che avevano già bandito il commercio di tali pelli, utilizzate come inserti nei prodotti di abbigliamento e di alcuni giocattoli. Finora solo cinque dei 27 Paesi che compongono l’Unione avevano bandito le pellicce provenienti dall’uccisione di cani e gatti. L’origine della proposta messa in votazione oggi è dovuta, in parte, proprio alle pressioni esercitate da questi Paesi, ai quali l’Italia ha fatto da “apripista” divenendo il primo Paese UE, e secondo nel mondo dopo gli USA, ad aver imposto un bando nazionale all’importazione e commercio di tali pelli. Amnesty: respinge le critiche del Vaticano sull'aborto 14.06.2007 Dure accuse del Card. Martino e pronta replica di Amnesty International. Il presidente del Pontificio consiglio 'Giustizia e pace' ha manifestato la sua "ferma riprovazione” per quella che ha definito la “svolta abortista” compiuta da Amnesty ed ha annunciato la "sospensione di ogni finanziamento a Amnesty da parte delle organizzazioni cattoliche". Pronta replica di Amnesty che, dopo aver precisato "di non aver mai ricevuto finanziamenti dal Vaticano o da organizzazioni della Chiesa Cattolica" informa il porporato che la recente policy adottata nel contesto della campagna “Mai più violenza sulle donne” intende "garantire l’accesso a servizi legali e sicuri di aborto a ogni donna la cui gravidanza sia dovuta a una violenza sessuale o a incesto o la cui gravidanza presenti un rischio per la sua vita o la sua salute".
